What is Capital Punishment?
Capital Punishment, also known as death penalty, is the act of executing someone for an extreme crime after a legal trial. These certain crimes depend on the countries law system. These crimes include treason, murder, types of fraud, adultery and rape.
In the past, Capital punishment has been used by most societies, criminals with such offences were usually executed in public, often accompanied by torture.
According to Amnesty International, more than two thirds of the countries in the world have abolished capital punishment. Up to August 2010, 58 nations actively practice capital punishment and 98 countries have abolished it for all crimes.
The methods still in use include Decapitation, Electrocution, firing squad, Gas Chamber, Hanging, Shooting, Stoning and Lethal injection.There are many other cruel methods used in the past but is no longer used currently.
This website will explore effectiveness of capital punishment and does this method reduce crime rates. I will look into certain countries for example China and United Kingdom and their uses of Capital Punishment. I will also look at different perspectives to this issue and future scenarios.
